On the Court with the Liberty’s Tina Charles

The Native New Yorker on Her Hometown and What It Means to Play Here

“When I go overseas to play in the offseason when I come back, when I touch down I just get jitters.” For Tina Charles, the 6’4” New York Liberty powerhouse who grew up in Queens, she looked forward to simply returning to her city as much as playing at The Garden for the hometeam. “Growing up as a fan, being able to put on the Liberty uniform, I don’t take it for granted.”

After scoring a game-high 28 points in a 96-80 win over her former team, the Connecticut Sun, on July 19th Charles spoke with New York City Monthly about how she credits both the person she is on and off the court to growing up in New York.
