NYC Ballet’s Spring 2014 Season
April 29, 2014 - June 8, 2014
A week-long celebration of 21st-century choreographers opens Spring 2014. Collecting 10 audience favorites, along with a new ballet from the winter, these three programs provide an opportunity to see today’s most compelling choreographers on one stage.
Spring also marks the 50th anniversary of our home at Lincoln Center, which opened its doors in 1964 as the New York State Theater (now the David H. Koch Theater). Celebrating the occasion, the Spring Gala on May 8 will feature a special program highlighted by a Justin Peck world premiere to music by Sufjan Stevens, their second collaboration following the rave-reviewed Year of the Rabbit (onstage during the 21st Century Choreographers week).
Also in recognition of this anniversary, the spring repertory includes several Balanchine ballets that were part of New York City Ballet’s inaugural 1964 Lincoln Center season: The Four Temperaments, Raymonda Variations, and Symphony in C. Another ballet that was onstage during that first season, and now a long-standing springtime tradition, Balanchine’s cherished full-length A Midsummer Night’s Dream, brings the 2013–14 Season to an enchanting end.
