Man on the Run

Sublimely Suave Weekend Wear

Weekends are a time to cut loose. Shucking the buttoned-up polish of the workweek, you can allow yourself to have a little fun with your wardrobe. You should be able to slip into what makes you feel like your true, authentic self, free from the constriction of your job. Whatever your taste, we have the inside scoop on some of this season’s chicest retailers and their most stylish wares so you can kick your springtime into high gear.

Bomber Jackets were originally created for military pilots in WWI. Back then, most airplanes didn’t have enclosed cockpits, so pilots would have to bundle themselves up to keep the cold away. The trend permeated to everyday wear for men, and these jackets have become a masculine symbol of strength and power. Singer/songwriter Ayler Young’s new line of Bombers, called Philip Ayler, were born from a revelatory dream about a fantasy burgundy jacket. From this epiphany, he decided to bring his musical sensibility into the world of fashion, unveiling a collection of vibrant alternatives to the look of traditional bomber jackets. The Vintage Silk Boucle is an excellent example of how the brand capitalizes on a classic shape while utilizing the texture of a pilled white silk.

For those who are looking in a more traditional direction, check out J.Crew’s Wallace & Barnes MA-1 bomber jacket. Available in military green and navy blue, it’ll make for a timeless and versatile addition to your wardrobe this spring.

Black high top sneakers never go out of style. There’s something about the simplicity of a black shoe with a high shaft that accomplishes a lot of drama by doing very little. The Supra Skytop is a highly imitated shoe that goes above and beyond simplicity without appearing too showy. Black suede and croc-embossed leather make this über cool sneaker easy to pair with casual daywear, though it can be dressed up with a blazer for a fun night of cocktails.

Naturally, it’s an absolute must when discussing black high tops to include the timeless air of Chuck Taylor Converse. While they’ve been the trademark shoes for artists and rockers, these kicks are the everyman sneakers, pairing easily with everything and perfect for a wide array of occasions. While the solid black sneaker is a trendy option, this season give yourself a bit of vintage iconography by treating yourself to a reliable pair of the classic black Chucks with their stark white rubber accents.

Whether it’s form fitting or worn loose, a good Henley can be used as a cozy piece for layering in cold weather or as a sexy and rugged piece all its own. Low maintenance with a high amount of return, they’re an absolute must for any man. The Gap is offering several new Henley tops this season, including a creamy soft Dark Indigo version. Made from super- smooth cotton, the Henley also has a mini-striped alternative, again in Dark Indigo. Both pieces provide a deep pop of blue with a brilliant balance of strong construction, while maintaining a flattering billowy quality.

For an edgier option, John Varvatos is offering the gorgeous Ribbed Pima Henley. With four dramatic colors, the long-sleeved piece is knit with a variegated ribbed texture with a soft jersey trim. The buttoned opening up top borders on v-neck territory, making it great for layering. Varvatos also has a sexy linen Henley this season, which is not to be missed. Also available in four distinct colors, it features yoked detailing along the shoulders, and the ultra-fine accents on the cuffs make it a stellar blending of comfort and luxury.
